Dear Classmates,

Veterans Day celebrations are happening all over the United States this weekend. Thank you to all of our classmates who have helped to provide our freedoms today. We have some who gave their lives and their memory is honored also.

The News:

SHARON CASTEEL ERWIN: sle62@swbell.net October 22 email: “Thank you so much for the card from the class regarding the death of my mother. I hope everyone really appreciates the time and effort you put in to help us all feel a connection to a part of our past that truly had an influence of who and what we became. This has been one of the hardest trials of my life but because of people like you it has been made easier. Thanks again.”

****It is amazing to me that whether you knew that person in high school or not many of you send cards and emails to a classmate in need. You may not have realized how your thoughts and prayers have touched that classmate. I hope you will continue to comfort one another in happy times as well as sad times as we “mature”.****

ALICE “ROBIN” COMBEST CRIDLAND: New email is comcrid@comcast.net

PAT PINCKARD: New email is pinckas@diebold.com

He is planning to open a private mediation practice after leaving the Commission. Steve’s oldest daughter received her MA in elementary level education and is a public school teacher in a district near Seattle. His youngest daughter is in her second year of a masters program in Public Health at the University of Washington. She spent last year in Africa (Zambia) helping set up a program for distributing drugs to combat HIV/AIDS and TB as widely as possible. Sandy and Steve spent a month with her chasing after animals in Zambia and Bostwana.

BILLIE ROBERTS DORRIS: beedorris@yahoo.com www.caringbridge.org/visit/hbdorris Friday, November 9, 2007 journal entry: “We met with Dr. Vance yesterday afternoon to discuss Sonny’s best plan of action to win his fight against leukemia. All of Sonny’s test results were good but one. His liver is showing signs of stress but can be addressed with medication. Vance has postponed the transplant dates one week. So we will not be admitted this Monday but next Monday the 19th. The transplant will now be postponed to the 27th instead of the 20th. We are pleased that we have another week at home….Sonny feels pretty well and the days are beautiful. We like to have the five grandchildren spend the night on the weekends to play Bingo, have egg custard and watch a few Stooges for ‘silly therapy’. This gives us more time. God is good. Love to all, Billie”

KEN RUSSELL: kenaero1@flash.net Ken continues to fly or now in the simulators at Flight Safety International in Hurst. He has been there for the past 17 years and plans to retire in 2010. Ken sent me pictures in his office and doing a test flight in the CH 146 in Mirabel Canada when he was with Bell Helicopter. You can see Ken’s pictures on our class website.

BONNIE ROUSE BURCH: New email address is burch144@verizon.net

Fort Worth Trivia: The Green Oaks Hotel will be demolished in December 2007. It opened in 1965 and it claimed to be the largest hotel built in Fort Worth since 1921. Architect David George, once an apprentice to Frank Lloyd Wright, designed the hotel. We had a reunion there and as I remember Joe Don Looney had us as a captive audience. Remember that evening???

In the November 2007 Fort Worth Texas Magazine DR. WAYNE PEAVEY was on page 52. He is a Fort Worth based dentist who has had a passion for playing the piano since he was a boy. You need to get a copy of the magazine soon. I left word for him to call me and I hopefully will have more information soon.

Monday, October 29, 2007, the Board of Directors of the PHS Alumni Association held the 2007 Paschal Alumni Association Class Representative dinner. Karen Tyson Hale went with me and it was a great meeting. I want to share with you the latest from this meeting: PHS baseball 2008 schedule is available at www.paschalbaseball.com

John Hamilton and Barbara Ozuna are the academic coordinators and gave the academic progress of Paschal High School:
1. Paschal had the highest SAT scores in FWISD:
548 critical reading; 546 mathematics; 527 in writing.

2. Paschal’s top 92 seniors had a critical reading average of 679 and math average of 666. Using the old style verbal and math SAT the score would be 1345.

3. They believe that Paschal’s 24 Semifinalists is the largest such total ever attained by any school in Tarrant County (public or private) and that the total (61) number of awards is also a new record. The 61 awards were distributed among 55 individual students.

One of the biggest and most important projects that are being planned by the PHS PTA and PHS Alumni Association is the PHS Landscape plan. Have you driven by Paschal lately? It needs to have more street appeal! There is a community effort to improve the Berry Street and TCU area. TCU looks great so drive through and see what can be done with community pride. You will be receiving more information from the PHS Alumni Association about this project. They have a financial goal and if 100 members of 25 classes gave just $80.00 each they would have the money for this project. I know the PHS Class of 1960 and I bet that if we had a competition our class would be first place with contributions. Think about it and look for the information coming to you by mail.

How can your class help the Paschal Alumni Association improve Paschal:

P stands for PASCHAL. We know what we learned. We want current and future students to have the same opportunity. The second P stands for PUBLIC SCHOOL. We believe in American public education. We want to help our students receive the best education possible. The third P stands for POTENTIAL. We are already a great school. Wit the help of YOU and YOUR CLASSMATES, we believe we can be the BEST school. Your donations will help make it so. The fourth P stands for PROMOTION. When you leave here today, please tell your classmates what you’ve heard. Tell them to renew their memberships, and ask them to CONTRIBUTE. The membership is only $10.00.

Please make your checks payable to Paschal Alumni Association, P.O. Box 11876, Fort Worth, TX 76110-0876. We are a 501(c)-(3) organization. All donations are tax deductible. Questions? Call 817-881-2021 or 817-920-7999

Did you receive your Paschal Alumni Pantherette? It is included in your membership dues.

This has been a long letter this time so I will resume with the “oldies quiz” next time.

Stay in touch and continue to locate classmates who have not been accounted for. Visit our class site https://members.tripod.com/paschal1960/ and http://www.paschalhs.org/

When you visit the sites look for classmates you can find and also think about who we could nominate from our class for the Alumni Hall of Fame. We need to honor more of our classmates because we have such outstanding classmates that have made a difference in this world.

Loyally,

Carrol Payne Nokes
